Maths

Learning mathematics enriches the lives of all Australians. The Western Australian Curriculum: Mathematics provides students with essential mathematical skills and knowledge in Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability. It develops the numeracy capabilities that all students need in their personal, work and civic life, and provides the fundamentals on which mathematical specialties and professional applications of mathematics are built.

Hillarys Primary combines an explicit teaching model whilst fostering critical thinking using a problem solving approach to learning.

A highlight of the week is the whole school Maths Challenge. This basic facts program aims to improve each student’s accuracy and speed with students setting goals for improvement. Basic fact knowledge is essential for mathematics success.

Mathletics is used across the school to develop mathematics knowledge and skills.
