At Hillarys Primary school we have a strong focus in providing best practice and evidence based theory.
In our early childhood areas, Kindy and Pre-primary, we have been holding “Let’s Talk Language” parent workshops to inform parents on the acquisition of language in the early years. The first of these workshops was presented in Hillarys Kindy in Term 1 and was received very positively by parents.
On Wednesday the 10th of May Hillarys Pre-primary held a parent information session. The initial two sessions (Kindy and Pre-Primary) were presented by Stacey Keyser. Stacey is a speech and language officer for the West Coast Language Development Centre (WCLDC) and a speech therapist. She is also Hillary Primary School’s language support Officer.
On Thursday evening the 11th of May, Broad Beach Kindy hosted a workshop presented by Helen Fairclough. Helen is an early childhood teacher here at Hillary’s Pre-Primary.
All presentations generated great interest and parents gained much understanding in what speech & language is and why it’s important.
We plan to continue in supporting our students and their parents through these workshops to ensure we can provide all children with the best possible opportunities to become successful readers.
