Dear resident,
We are writing to inform you about the upcoming removal of asbestos-containing soil from the construction site of Hillarys Primary School. The work is scheduled to take place from Saturday 16 December 2023, during the school holidays.
As this is a construction site, the area is not accessible to students, staff, and members of the public. The asbestos is not of the airborne variety and does not present a hazard to surrounding areas.
Asbestos removal will be conducted by a licensed contractor, who will follow strict guidelines conforming to WorkSafe safe work procedures and legislative requirements. Moreover, environmental consultants will monitor the removal process to ensure that it is carried out safely and efficiently.
During the removal process, the area will be cordoned off and appropriate signage will be installed around the perimeter of the school site to advise residents of the work being undertaken. Water trucks will also be deployed to minimise the movement of dust, and the use of enclosed trucks will ensure that any materials are transported safely offsite. Additionally, a street cleaner will be deployed to clean Lymburner Drive at regular intervals.
Once the removal process is complete, the site will be tested and clearance certificates will be provided to the school, confirming that the site is safe for staff and students to return.
We hope that this information is helpful, and we would like to thank you in advance for your patience and understanding during this time.
Yours sincerely
Hillarys PS Redevelopment Team
