NO ACCESS TO THE SCHOOL SITE, OVAL OR PLAY AREAS ON SATURDAY 18th MARCH 2023

Dear Parents/ Guardians

NO ACCESS TO THE SCHOOL SITE, OVAL OR PLAY AREAS ON SATURDAY 18th MARCH 2023

On Saturday there will be some asbestos removal from the building site and we cannot have anyone on the school site from 7.00am Saturday 18th March until 4pm Saturday 18th March 2023 unless you receive further information from the school.

  • The health, safety and wellbeing of students and staff are the Department’s highest priority and we are committed to managing any asbestos containing materials found in schools and any other department facilities in such a way as to minimise any risk to students, staff, service providers, volunteers, parents and other visitors to the site.
  • Demolition will be carried out by qualified contractors during the school holidays, when students and staff are not at school. The community is advised not to use the oval area of the school during this time. Signage will be implemented around the school site during the work.
  • The Department of Education publication, Asbestos Management Plan, describes how asbestos containing materials in public schools and Department workplaces are managed.
  • Air Monitoring of the school asbestos clearance area will be undertaken and is a process whereby air in and/or around an asbestos work area is monitored to detect the presence of asbestos fibres.
  • A Clearance certificate will be issued by a third party upon completion of the work.

This is a certificate issued by an independent licensed assessor or competent person to certify that a clearance inspection of an asbestos work area has been conducted and the area is safe to be occupied.

  • Clearance inspection is an inspection carried out in accordance with the Occupational Safety and Health Regulations (1996) by a competent person to verify that an asbestos work area is safe to occupy after work involving the disturbance, removal and/or remediation of asbestos has taken place.

Once the school has received the official clearance paperwork, we will advise the school community that the school site is now clear to access.

Rebuild Update

Bothe TB1 and TB3 have been completed and our Kindergarten student and year 2 and 3 students are enjoying the new classes. The kindy students are loving the bike track.

The rest of the school has been refenced to section of the area for Stage 2 which commenced over the holidays. This is going to be a long process as there is a lot of work to be carried out prior to the buildings being demolished.

No Access to School Site

Dear Members of the Community

There will be no access allowed to the Hillarys Primary School oval, play areas or school site from Friday 23rd September until Tuesday 11th October.

The demolition of the stage 2 building will commence and as these buildings are deemed as containing asbestos we cannot have anyone on the school site.

Once we receive official clearance we will update the website.

Stage 1 of the rebuild is moving along nicely

The kindergarten block is at lock up stage and the landscaping and brick paving has commenced.

The Year 2/3 block is at plate height now and sits up high on the hill, the year 1 block will be along them. A walkway will connect this block to the Year 4/5 and 6, 2 story building.

Building Progress- Wow it goes up fast

The new Kindergarten and Teaching Block are progressing. We are now looking at an

early Term 3 transition to these buildings. This delay has been caused by final fit-out

supply issues.

The new Early Childhood building has bricks.

It was very exciting to arrive at work and see the bricks for the rebuild be delivered. At lunchtime the Preprimary students were very excited to see that some walls had already been build.

I wonder what it will look like after the holidays?

Bricks arriving
We have walls.

SOD turning at Hillarys Primary School

It was great to have Premier Mark McGowan, Minister Sue Ellery and Member for Hillarys Caitlin Collins MLA at the school today to do the official SOD turn for the school rebuild. Our Head Boy Shaymus and Head Girl Florence had the privilege along with principal Mr Trevor Mitchell in participating the the event.
